PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome)

Depression, frustration, anger,
irritability, headaches, breast tenderness, abdominal pain and bloating--these
are some of the symptoms that often occur in a woman suffering from
PMS (premenstrual syndrome).
These symptoms can show up anywhere from 7 to 14 days before a menstrual
period begins, and can range from mild to debilitating. In the past
several years, so many articles on the subject have appeared that
it is apparent PMS is extremely common in the American female population.
We certainly know that stress is a major contributor, and considering
that most women must combine a career with family and social life,
it is little wonder that PMS is becoming more and more common. Other
contributing factors may be the use of birth-control pills, drugs
(prescription, over-the-counter, and recreational) and/or alcohol,
SAD, and the postponement of childbirth.
Oriental medicine, which includes acupuncture and herbology, offers
a safe, drug-free, and highly effective treatment for PMS. Gynecology
is a traditional specialty of Oriental Medicine, one in which it
has achieved some of its most remarkable results. In fact, Chinese
medical texts that prescribed treatment for infertility, morning
sickness, abnormal uterine bleeding, menopausal discomfort, and
what we now refer to as PMS have been around since 300 BC!
Modern scientific research is just beginning to confirm what so
many women already know--acupuncture and herbs are very effective
for gynecological conditions. If you are suffering from PMS or have
a health condition that is causing you concern and you would like
to know if holistic medicine might be of help, you are welcome to
